Exam Levels
Billiard University organizes its curriculum into three exam levels, each testing different aspects of your game:
BEGINNER Exam I: Fundamentals
8 drills covering the essential shots every player needs: cut shots, stop shots, follow, draw, stun, pocketing, and cue ball control patterns. Scored using progressive practice (position 1–7).
INTERMEDIATE Exam II: Skills
10 drills at three difficulty tiers (Bachelors, Masters, Doctorate). Tests pattern play, safety, kicks, banks, elevated cue shots, jumps, and break technique. Harder tiers add more balls and tighter requirements.
ADVANCED Exam III: Advanced Shots
25 individual shots testing spot shots, power follow/draw, spin, kicks, banks, jumps, hops, and massé technique. Scored using the 4-2-1 system (4 points first attempt, 2 second, 1 third).
Scoring Types
Progressive Practice
Used for Fundamentals drills (F1–F8). You start at position 4, and each hit advances your position (up to 7) while each miss drops it (down to 1). After 10 shots, your score is your final position plus bonus points for successes at position 7.
Simple Counting
Used for several Skills drills. You take a fixed number of attempts, and each successful shot adds a point. Your score is the total hits out of the maximum possible.
Multi-Layout
Used for pattern drills like S3 (9-Ball Patterns) and S4 (8-Ball Patterns). You complete multiple table layouts in sequence, entering a score for each. Your total is the combined score across all layouts.
4-2-1 Attempts
Used for Advanced Shots (A1–A25). You get three attempts per shot: 4 points if you succeed on the first try, 2 on the second, 1 on the third, and 0 if all three miss.
